Through NISO, all these communities are able to collaborate on mutually accepted standards and solutions that enhance their operations today and form a foundation for the future.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"image \">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"no-print lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openathens.net\/app\/uploads\/2021\/02\/NISO-logo-300x166-1.png\" srcset=\"\" sizes=\"100vw, (min-width: 1440px) 1440px, (min-width: 1024px) 1024px, (min-width: 768px) 768px\" alt=\"OpenAthens joins NISO - NISO Logo\" >\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n<p class=\"core-paragraph\">We have worked together on projects before, including on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ra21.org\/\">two-year RA21 initiative<\/a>&nbsp;which delivered a set of recommended practices. When RA21 was replaced by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/seamlessaccess.org\/\">Seamless Access<\/a>&nbsp;in 2019, we continued to work with NISO and other organizations on the new initiative\u2019s steering committee and advisory and outreach committee. We also participated in several NISO-led webinars and we are represented on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/niso.plus\/\">NISO Plus 2021<\/a>&nbsp;planning committee.&nbsp; NISO\u2019s executive director, Todd Carpenter was a plenary speaker at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.openathens.net\/events\/openathens-conference-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OpenAthens 2019 conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n<p class=\"core-paragraph\">Recently NISO announced its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.niso.org\/what-we-do\/strategic-plan\">three-year strategic plan<\/a>, which focuses on four key themes: Diversity and Inclusion; Trendsetting; Standards Development for Content and Technology; and Community Development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n<p class=\"core-paragraph\">Voting Members of NISO must support its goals, which are to initiate, develop, maintain, and publish technical standards in the information industry. Furthermore, members are expected to understand and influence NISO standards, helping to ensure their own products both follow industry best practices and meet the customers\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n<p class=\"core-paragraph\">We join NISO\u2019s roster of well-respected member organizations, as a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.niso.org\/join\/VM-benefits\">voting member<\/a>&nbsp;which allows us to have a voice at the table\u2019, and to participate in the discussion, debate, and decision-making about technological advances in information management.
