What systems do we integrate with?

OpenAthens Compass seamlessly integrates with multiple local directory systems such as Azure/Entra, Okta, Shibboleth etc. We support a variety of integration methods such as SAML, OIDC, LDAP and have a REST-based API for those who want to develop a custom integration.

Connections

If your organization already has a user directory storing user account and usernames and passwords, OpenAthens Compass is able to connect securely with this data. Single sign-on is easily established along with the benefits of the OpenAthens Compass administrative area. Some of the options are listed below.

SAML

OpenAthens Compass can connect to SAML sources such as Microsoft Entra, Google Apps, OneLog, Shibboleth, and others so that you do not have to issue personal accounts for your users. As well as the ability to use local accounts instead of maintaining a separate set of credentials, access to federated resources that already involve discovery (identifying the users’ home organization) will take the user directly to your SAML login.

ADFS

Connect directly to ADFS (Active Directory Federation Services) so that you do not have to issue personal accounts for your users. As well as the ability to use local accounts instead of maintaining a separate set of credentials, access to federated resources that already involve discovery (identifying the users’ home organization) will take the user directly to your ADFS login.

LDAP

Connect directly to an LDAP server so that you do not have to issue personal accounts for your users. Anything that uses standard LDAP protocols is acceptable so this works well with ActiveDirectory too. As well as the ability to use local accounts instead of maintaining a separate set of credentials, access to federated resources that already involve discovery (identifying the users’ home organization) will take the user directly to your LDAP login at our authentication point – no further discovery is required.

API

The OpenAthens Compass local authentication API can be used to log your users into the system based on credentials stored in any system you can gain programmatic access to. You will be required to implement some code at your end.

SirsiDynix

OpenAthens Compass can connect to a SirsiDynix system using its Symphony or Horizon API so that you do not have to issue personal accounts for your users.

CAS

OpenAthens Compass can connect to CAS (Client Access Server) so that you do not have to issue personal accounts for your users. You will need a CAS server with SAML support enabled.

OIDC

Along with SAML, OIDC is fast becoming the new dominant standard in federated identity. Adding support for OIDC enables OpenAthens Compass to connect to a wider range of identity systems and directories which organizations are increasingly starting to use.

Evergreen ILS

The Evergreen ILS connector allows users to log in to OpenAthens Compass with their Evergreen credentials.
