Q. How are users managed within OpenAthens? Will I need to create new users and how can I restrict access to certain users?

Answers...

There are two main account types within OpenAthens.

OpenAthens accounts are accounts that can be created and managed within the OpenAthens admin area.

Local accounts are accounts that are managed and maintained within your local directory (Azure, AD, LDAP) OpenAthens can store a read-only copy of these accounts to allow users to utilize their current organizational logins for access.

If you are using either OpenAthens accounts, local accounts, or a mix of both you will be able to restrict access to users or groups of users as needed. The best method for this can be determined alongside your setup as needed.
